We got out of jail on Saturday big time – recording a 27-25 bonus point win against a fast finishing Boroondara team.

The game started well with Quins dominating possession and field position for the first 10-15 minutes with no return on the scoreboard before the Redbacks recorded the first try of the game. Quins hit back with some good mauling work for halfback Brendan Goodwin to dive over with Jay Graham then scoring on the wing after some good team build up play before getting a double with a lucky intercept try. This had the score at 17-10 at the half with Boroondara kicking 1 penalty.

The team still looked slow in the second half, and with silly passes and poor kicking were allowing Boroondara to play the fast open game we wanted to restrict them from doing. Charlie Sale scored our 4th try after some simple passing along the line and things were looking more comfortable at 24-10 with 25mins to go. We then had a player sent off for his 2nd yellow card,  They kicked a penalty from the indiscretion to have the scores at 24-13. Thus we would play the last 25mins with 14 men – and this was like waving a red flag to a bull with the Boroondara boys. They constantly ran and ran and ran at us stretching us from one side to the other – fortunately for Quins we just held on. We ventured into their half only once more for the game, where we gained a penalty and stretched the lead to 27-13 with 8 minutes to go – we should be safe? From the kickoff Boroondara scored immediately under the posts from sloppy Quins play, and then after the siren Boroondara again scored to set up a conversion from 15m to the side of the posts to give the game a draw – a kick the Boroondara player thankfully missed.
