1st Grade

1st Grade didn’t start real well with us losing our hooker Peter Dawson during the warm up, Denis Sua moved to the unfamiliar position of hooker. The team came up against a well structured Power House team but started with the momentum to score a early penalty to lead 3-0. From this point Power House had the majority of the play in the first half as we struggled in the Line Out and Power House matched us well in the scrum. Some desperate scramble defence on a number of occasions ensured House didn’t get over the line for a try, but they did manage to score 3 penalties to lead at the half 9-3.

The second half started again well with a early penalty goal to get the score to 9-6 and we started to gain some more momentum but with a struggling lineout we couldn’t sustain pressure. House then secured some field position and scored the first try of the game to lead 16-6 at the 15min mark of the 2nd half. The urgency in the team increased and after blowing some chances we crossed the line to get the scores to 16-13 and the momentum was definitely in our favour. From this point the guys played sensible rugby to gain 4 penalty goal opportunities that Josh Moore converted 3 of to score a 22-16 victory.

2nd Grade

Harlequin 2nd’s have made a habit of starting well and were quickly into their stride. Early on Troy Drew put Stephen Hape through a hole in Power House’s defence, he offloaded to Jeremy Raymond in support who likewise passed to Will Morgan to score. Power House then started to get some ball and with it field position and at the 12 minutes mark they kicked a penalty to make the score 5 -3. Then Harlequins kicked into gear and scored 3 quick tries. The first after a lineout drive from 7 metres out for Martin Richomme to score. After more attack, Nathan Redfern quick thinking saw him pick and go from close range to score Harlequins 3rd try. He converted his own try. The bonus point try came after a backline move from a lineout and Johnny Iosefo pushed of a number of players to score a try which was also converted. However soon after Power house intercepted a pass and scored under the posts, keeping them right in the game. Harlequins leading 24 -10 at half time.

With the game still in the balance, Power House took the first opportunity of the second half after they ran back a Harlequins kick and exposed a lack of defenders down the touchline to score in the corner. This cut Harlequins lead to only 9. Harlequins knew that they need to score next and with a scrum in the middle of the field, Will Morgan attacked the blindside and put through a kick which Ritchie Milne won the foot race to score. Harlequins scored again after creating more pressure from a number of phases and Johnny Iosefo scored in the corner which Redfern converted. Harlequins finally running out winners 36 – 15.
