Premier Division Round 9 (26 June, 2010)
1st Grade
The 1st Grade game was a very physical affair with neither team giving an inch. Box Hill has the early run of the game, but the backline defence was holding, as was the short side defence where Box Hill like to attack. Both teams remained scoreless when just before the half Charlie Sale broke from the back of the scrum from 25m to score out wide with Josh Moore kicking the conversion. Unfortunately all this good work was negated off the kickoff as the clearing kick was charged down for Box Hill to score under the posts right on half time.
The scrum was strong and the team started to move the ball well to stretch the defence and this opened up a hole for Mace Poloie to run 30m to score to give Quins a 12-7 lead just after the half. Box Hill scored a penalty soon after to bring the scores to 12-10, but again Quins moved the ball well for a smart try to Jay Graham on the wing to give a 17-10 lead with 15mins to go. Box Hill attacked relentlessly but Quins seemed to have their measure until some smart counter attack from a Quins kick and a gaping hole in the centre of the field allowed Hill to score next to the posts. Unbelievably the Box Hill player missed the kick, but to great frustration a Quins player made a noise during the kick meaning the Box Hill player got another kick which he converted to lock the scores up 17-17 with 5 minutes to play. Quins kicked off deep and received a penalty out wide. Under huge pressure, Josh Moore kicked the penalty to take the lead back with only minutes remaining. One last assault came to no avail for Box Hill with Quins taking the game and regaining 2nd place on the table over Box Hill.
2nd Grade
After a good win the week before it was important for Harlequins to keep their momentum playing against an inconsistent Box Hill.
Harlequins started the match well and scored almost immediately with a great individual try by Denis Sua. Soon after this and a number of phases, David Moyise scored out on the wing. Ritchie Milne not to be out done, then scored an excellent try on the other wing. Box Hill then started to get into the match with more possession and territory. However Milne took another opportunity and extended Harlequins lead to 24 – 0 at Half time.
Harlequins now playing with the wind continued to pile on the pressure and scored tries to Siof Tulanga and Dan Henry, which were both converted by Emil Vartazarian. Harlequins then started to bring on fresh legs which result in tries to Yannick Branson, Reid Bradford and Cael Blizzard. The match end with Henry scoring his second try after bouncing on the loose ball from a lineout. The final score 64 – 0 to Harlequins.
