Rebels appoint Rod Macqueen as new coach

Rod MacqueenFormer Australian coach Rod Macqueen has come out of retirement to be the new Head Coach of the Melbourne Rebels in 2011's Super 15. Macqueen signed a three-year contract with new Chief Executive Brian Waldron on Wednesday, saying he had been reinvigorated by the potential he saw in the new franchise.

Macqueen appointed Damien Hill as the team’s assistant coach. Hill will depart his post as Head Coach at the Sydney University Rugby Club to take up the role. Hill has led the Sydney club to the last three premierships in Sydney’s Shute Shield, widely recognised as Australia’s leading first grade rugby union competition.

Details of these appointments and a short bio of Rod Macqueen can be seen in the attached press releases.

Australian Schoolboys UK Tour - Newsletters, Match Reports and Photos

News of the Australian Schoolboys trip to the UK has special meaning for the Harlequins since Angus Hamilton and Jack DeGuingand are representing Australia (and the Quins).  Match reports and some of the newsletters have been sent back together with a large number of photos taken by Carl Peterson, father of the 6' 9" lock from Sydney who was unfortunately injured and returned to Australia before the end of the trip.  Carl returned with him so the quantum of photos dried up for the later matches.

Melbourne Wins Super Rugby Licence

Australian Rugby Union welcomes today’s historic decision to include Melbourne as the 15th Super Rugby team when one of the world’s premier Rugby competitions expands in 2011.

An independent two-man panel handed down its verdict after SANZAR requested a review – and a binding finding – on the applications received from ARU, on behalf of Melbourne, and the South African Rugby Union, on behalf of the Southern Kings.
