Harlequin U16's reach the Grand Final against Eltham

The Harlequin Junior rugby sides have done a great job this season culminating in the U16's representing the club in the Grand Final against Eltham this Saturday. The U12's and U14's represented us in the preliminary finals and both were unlucky not to be in the Grand Final. The U14's in particular drew their match with Northern only to be put out of the Grand Finals because Northern finished one rung up the ladder after the home and aways.

U12, U14 and U16 juniors reach the Semi Finals (Saturday 29th August)

The Harlequin Juniors, coaches and team management have done a fantastic job to get three of our junior teams (U12, U14 and U16) into the finals.  Congratulations to all players and everyone concerned. Now let’s go the next step!

The preliminary finals take place at the Griff Hunt Reserve (Melways 37 B7) according to the attached schedule. The juniors are the future of our club so let's see as many Harlequins at the match as possible to cheer them on.

Start times are:

  • U12 - 9.00am
  • U14 - 11.45am
  • U16 - 12.50pm

PRESS RELEASE - Melbourne gets ARU's Super 15 nod

Melbourne has won endorsement from the ARU Board as Australia’s sole contender for the 15th Super Rugby licence.

The hugely-popular provincial competition will expand by one team in 2011 with the SANZAR joint venture to decide later this year on where the new side will be established.

While the 15th team will play in the Australian Conference as part of a revamped and extended Super Rugby format, interested parties in South Africa and New Zealand are also bidding to have the side based within their national boundaries.

“It was for this reason that the ARU Board accepted a recommendation from Management to put forward only one bid to the next stage of the selection process,” said ARU Managing Director and CEO John O’Neill.

The complete Press Release is attached.
