Pre-season training
The pre-season training program has been very well-received by our players. Our coaches Brock Parker, Mike Motu and Steve Johnson (1st Grade); Andrew Slyfield and Jim Donovan (2nd Grade); David Feenan (3rd Grade); and Ruhan van Zyl and Todd Cornford (Colts) have, together with conditioner Jose Thomas, put together a first class pre-season package which has seen training attendance improve markedly on previous years.
An active recruitment campaign, led by Brock, has seen a number of quality players joining us this year with some high profile players from overseas, interstate and from the local competition coming on board in 2010. The Colts, too, have been strengthened immeasurably this year by some very focused recruiting by Ruhan van Zyl which should see us as credible finals’ aspirants this year.
The training sessions have been complemented by a solid performance at the Cerberus 10s and, more tellingly, by outbound tours to Canberra (Colts) and Bendigo (Seniors).

Upcoming Trials
Following the Easter break, we have trials coming up on Saturday 10 April against Moorabbin (away) and on Saturday 17 April against University (home). These trials will give us a clearer indication of the depth of our playing stock for the coming season. All members are warmly invited to cheer on our teams during these trials. Reports heard on the grapevine suggest that other clubs have also fared well in the recruiting stakes with Melbourne becoming a popular rugby destination following the news that the Rebels will participate in the 2011 Super XV competition. With the ‘Pillar Years’ thankfully behind us, the early indications are that the quality of rugby will be at a significantly higher level than has been the case in the past few years.
Season Launch
The Season Launch will take place at the Club following the trials against University on Saturday 17th April. Starting at approximately, 5.30pm the Season Launch will be a great opportunity for the entire club to get together to celebrate the coming season. Featuring a strong past and present player theme, a highlight of the evening will be the announcement of teams in all grades and the presentation of jerseys by distinguished senior members of the Club. The cost of the function is $10.00 which includes a plate of pasta and a pot of beer or a glass of wine.
