A hardy few of the Quins Golfers set off early in the morning to play at the Queenscliff Golf Club on the Defence Department's land in Swan Bay. All of us managed to get through the security checks without difficulty and when the golf shop finally opened we were able to hit off at 8:30am. Some of us had left Melbourne at the crack of dawn in the dark for the journey down to Queenscliff whilst others decided that it was better to go the night before.
The course was not in the best shape although the scenery was good and many of the holes presented a lot of challenge (especially to your correspondent). We had to contend not only with the vagaries of the course but also the wild life that was lurking in the bush just off the fairways. From the size of the detritus on the fairways and the greens one could only assume that the kangaroos were six foot tall. This was confirmed when two emerged from the bush whilst Andy Corp and I were searching for our ball after one of many stray drives
David Bray, relaxed from driving down the night before, had an ordinary first nine but hopped into the bar for a beer (or was it two or even three) before starting on the tenth and then had blinder of a second nine to emerge the winner on the day. The full results are shown below:
| Event | Winner |
| Individual Stableford | David Bray - 31 Stableford points (count back) |
| | Andy Corp - 31 Stableford points |
| Nearest the pin (9th) | Helen Noble |
| Nearest the pin (14th) | David Bray |
| Longest Drive (10th)) | Helen Noble |
There was a little bit of discussion about the result of the longest drive. Helen's drive was very close to the middle of the fairway and Andy Corp, who won the longest drive at Trentham, was less than a meter behind but on the edge of the fairway. Andy suggested that maybe his drive had travelled a further distance since it was further to the edge of a wide fairway than the center of the fairway (it's getting a bit complicated). Anyway the match committee (of one) would have none of it and Andy's protest was dismissed.
Afterwards everyone had lunch in Queenscliff and headed home for a good rest.

The next golf day will take place on 17th May. Instead of holding the golf day at the RACV course at Torquay the venue has been changed to the RACV Cape Schanck golf course on the Mornington Peninsula. It was felt by a number of us who played at Queenscliff (and there were only eight of us) that after travelling from Melbourne to Queenscliff and back in a day that we would prefer courses which are closer to Melbourne with one and a half hours travel time at the very most. The Mornington Peninsula provides plenty of opportunites for good golf courses and Cape Schanck is one of them.
I have booked four hitoff slots starting at 11.00am for sixteen players and a deposit of 50% of the green fees has been paid. I will be in Europe from 5th May (next Tuesday) until 4th June and Andy Corp has kindly offered to organise the day for us. We need confirmed numbers no later that 12th May. Please email or 'phone (mobile: 0411 796 816) Andy Corp as soon as possible to let him know whether or not you are able to attend.
The costs of the day are shown below and payment of $55.00 is to be made to Andy on the day. It is not possible to work out a per person cost until the final numbers are known but if we continue to adopt the fixed fee of $55.00 per golf day then the surplus will be used to subsidise more expensive golf days (e.g. The Dunes) and contribute
towards the end of year function at Flinders. If there is a strong view amongst members that we should institute a change please email me since I would be keen to obtain members' thoughts on the subject.
| Item | Cost | Comments |

A couple of sundry matters.
The website shows that future golf days are intended to start at 9.00am. That is not correct and it is intended that where possible the hitoff times start at approximately 11.00am.
If possible we will change the 28th June golf day from the Rosebud Park Golf Course to the Rosebud Country Club golf course
Good golfing and I look forward to seeing everyone when I return from Europe in June.
